Skincare 101: The Body
Baby, I’m back by popular demand.
I did not come here to play (with your attention).
I came here to SLAY (your skincare game).

As follow-up to my first Skincare 101 post, I thought it’d be helpful to incorporate some body skincare tips I follow religiously. Because it’s just not fair to only have your face glow, your asscheeks must too.
I’m tryna see YOU GLOW FROM HEAD TO TOE!
What is Glow? …I am so glad you asked!
Glow
/ɡlō/
Glow is the result of healthy skin that is hydrated, can hold its water, and has the right nutrients flowing in and out of circulation
When your skin is in direct competition with a lightbulb
What your asscheeks will do after you read this 5 min blog
Wait… I have more skin to take care of?
Duh. Look down, you have skin everywhere and where there is skin, there are what I’d like to call the pimple trifecta:
1. Pores
2. Bacteria
3. and Dead skin cells that all like to have a pimple-party without your notice.
And unfortunately, they don’t clean up after themselves. So getting glow meaning getting ALL of your skin taken care of.
Think of some spots where the pimple trifecta like to party:
Back of your arms aka the triceps
The middle of your back
Your décollage (collarbone area)
The surface of your feet (Dead skin feeding ground)
Your thighs
Side of your calves
Everywhere.
Luckily for you, because the skin on your body is thicker, it requires less maintenance, all the work can be done during your shower, so you have no excuses!
Skincare 101: THe Body
Use a shower scrubber - This tool will eradicate almost all of the red bumps. Just like how exfoliating your face is crucial for glow, a shower scrubber helps scrub off all the dirt, clogged pores, and dead skin that accumulates on your skin! Plus, scrubbing uses less body wash, it’s a win-win! If you aren’t that flexible, a back scrubber is a great tool. You should be replacing these shower scrubbers once a month so the bacteria don’t fester.
2. Do not wash your body twice a day - If you shower twice a day, every day—STOP THAT! If you shower in the morning, use body wash, but let’s say you go to the gym and you wanna shower again? Just rinse your body & your hair! If you use body wash again, you’re going to strip the skin of its oils, which is bad news.
3. Your body wash is crucial - If you have a quality body wash, it will do half of the moisturizing work for you! This doesn’t mean spend a fortune! But a good body wash will help you keep the moisture in your skin = glow. PLEASE pay attention to the nasty ingredients, anything with sulfates, parabens is a no-no. Look for ones that include an extract, bonus points for shea butter, coconut oil, or lavender. Find a body wash with ingredients you can pronounce.
4. During winter, Moisturize- No exceptions. No ifs and or buts. Your skin is EXTRA dry in the winter. It will dry and crack if you abandon it! In the winter, to get extra soft skin, I mix a little bit of coconut oil into my body lotion. 5 dabs of moisturizer to 1 dab of coconut oil. You just need a dab. How much is a dab? Whatever Betty White says it is.
5. Sunscreen - Apply sunscreen like you drink water. The sun’s UV rays are evil. As evil as the devil and 3-hour retail shifts. Here’s why UV rays SUCK: They permanently burn through your second layer of skin (you have seven layers in total).
Think of it this way: The sun doesn’t give one f*ck. It doesn’t care about humanity’s BS beauty standards. It’s a ball of gas that will burn for 5 billion more years. It doesn’t give a single f*ck.
6. Scars no more - For scarring, I just started using bio-oil to remove the scars all over my legs from years of carelessness and playground scars. So far, it’s working :)
BONUS TIPS!!
If you’ve read my Skincare 101 post, I missed out on a few tips that I’ll cover right here!
Your moisturizer is dutty - If your moisturizer has an open lid like the one below, USE A SPATULA TO SCOOP OUT YOUR PRODUCT!!!! OH MY GOD!!!! Each time you dip your fingers into it, you’re transferring the dirt on your fingers INTO your moisturizer!
Over time, you think you’re just applying moisturizer, but you also are applying the pimple trifecta (dirt, bacteria, dead skin) onto your face. This is a great barrier to glow.
So go to Sephora, take a free eyeshadow brush, remove the cotton part, and voila, you have a spatula.
2. Wash your beauty tools- This isn’t a sexy task. But if your makeup applicators are dirty, you are reapplying the pimple trifecta back onto your face.
Beauty Blenders: I use hand soap infused with 15-20 drops of lavender oil. I put lavender oil in my hand soap bc it’s good skin and it also has antibacterial properties that prevent mold from growing on my beauty blender. Bonus.
How to wash your makeup brushes:
Wash them once a month. Your makeup brushes accumulate a lot of dirt. You can also wash with baby shampoo.
Soak & lather your brushes with soap
Let the brushes sit for 2 minutes
Rinse.
To make your job easier, you can purchase this brush scrubber. Well worth the $4-7 bucks in my opinion.
And when winter comes along. You best believe I’ll be reminding you once again, to moisturize like a freak, because GLOW!
That’s all I got for now :) I hope this helps!
Love,
Liya
